A redirect is used to reroute users from one URL to another.when web servers return a redirect to the browser, the response has the status code in the 3xx range.This indicates that further action is required of the user agent in order to fulfill the request.

300  multiple choices
301  moved permanently
302  moved temporiraly
303  see other (indicating that the resource has been replaced)
304  not modified
305  use proxy
306  (no longer used)
307  temporary redirect

In general redirects make the web pages slower.So that alternative solutions should be needed to overcome this.

missing trailing slash

A redirect occurs when / is missing from url.

eg:

http://www.google.com

http://www.google.com/

connecting website

trackling internet traffic

tracking outbound traffic

prettier URLs

eg:

http://www.google.com/tools/firefox/toolbar/FT#/intl/en/index.html

instead of this use this

http://www.toolbar.google.com/
